Notice of His Excellency the Governor...
It would appear from the statement of Ing Ssoing that one hundred and twenty persons, including himself, who came to Hongkong for the purpose of proceeding to the Island of Sumatra, were kidnapped in this Colony by a man named Share Thing. They were taken over by a man to Macao and there confined in the Coolie Barracoons, from which the complainant made his escape, leaving his companions still imprisoned within those establishments.
The probability is that the remainder of the party have shared the same fate. This nefarious act of kidnapping would appear to be one of those perpetrated by persons who are employed by Coolie Agents to procure Coolies for shipment to the Havannah. The Portuguese authorities are referred to in connection with the case of Ing Ascong's statement.
